NIREAS-IWRC researcher seconded to the Technical University of Crete for collaborative work on the treatment of raw winery wastewater
Thursday, January 24, 2013

Ph.D. student Lida Ioannou collaborated with the laboratories of (a) Environmental Technology and Management (Director: Professor Evan Diamadopoulos) and (b) Environmental Organic Chemistry - Micropollution (Head: Assistant Professor Nikos Xekoukoulotakis) of the Technical University of Crete (TUC), Greece. Ms Lida Ioannou investigated the efficiency of a pilot scale reverse osmosis (RO) process on the treatment of raw winery wastewater, in single pass and in recirculation mode. Moreover, she examined the recovery of the polyphenols that were in the original winery wastewater. For this reason, High Performance Liquid Chromatography analysis was used in order to investigate the presence of polyphenols in winery wastewater and their recovery through the RO process. The experiments were carried out at the Technical University of Crete from 20 October 2012 to 15 November 2012, as part of her Ph.D. thesis.
